Having had considerable apartment rental experience, I was often if not always asked about the safety of the neighborhood. My reply is always the same.......

This is an easy to use, free tool provided to anyone with internet access. Just punch in your Zip code and a map comes up with dots indicating criminal offenders in your area. These dots vary in color based on the crime that they were convicted of. You can click on the dots themselves to get an incredibly clear picture of the offender along with his current address, violations found guilty of, identifying marks, etc.

I would strongly advise any and everyone to visit this site. These guys are supposed to be rehabilitated (yeah right), but it is always good to know who lives around you and to have an idea of what they look like. This simple knowledge could save you and yours from unfortunate encounters.

Many of us are so caught up in our own existence that our primary concern is proximity to the train or bus, nearest laundry, food, bars, that we forget that there are other lives out there that could have a powerful impact on our own, be it positive or negative. There are many people out there who are willing and able to contribute to our lives in an affirmative manner, and these are the ones we constantly search for. What about those with sinister intents? Should we not know who they are and what they have done?

Of course they are entitled to certain basic rights and I am not saying that we should alienate them or abuse them or torment them. I am saying that we should be more conscious of their existence and more aware of their tendencies and whereabouts.

Let's look in the box. Each and every one of us (I believe) has little and in some cases large weird things about us. We all (I believe) have little embarrassing habits which we would prefer to keep away from public knowledge. (out the box) What little secrets does the guy next door have? It could be as petty as yours or not. What about the lady upstairs. She seems normal, but are you sure. There are so many of us with our little odd things that if all our secrets were to suddenly become public knowledge, I am certain that "normal" would have to be revisited.
